Tips for healing your helix piercing

Tips for healing your helix piercing | Roxxi's Poolroom

Helix piercings! What to know! Yamaa! It’s your deadliest piercer in Fitzroy, Em!

I get lots of questions regarding helix piercings AND cartilage piercings in general and why they take so long to heal! Both helix and cartilage piercings can feel so sensitive that a slight knock of the ear, snag of the hair on your new ear jewellery or even the pressure on a sweet soft pillow on a fresh helix or any cartilage piercing can cause irritation - but, don’t fear, that doesn’t mean you’ve caused an infection. These cute lil beauties come from an area in the body where blood flow is low so healing around a foreign body can take some time to accept and to completely heal. Most importantly, Be patient - your new piercing will eventually heal and real nicely if you take care of it and yourself.

Here are some tips and tricks I use to help get my helix piercings healed and comfortable.

Watch where ya lay...

My main red hot tip is not sleeping on your fresh piercing. I know this literally sounds like a nightmare, but to avoid rolling over in the middle of the night and applying pressure to your piercing try using a “Horse Shoe Travel pillow”. I put my ear in the middle of the U shaped pillow to allow myself to get a full nights rest so no angry helix piercing and no angry me :)

Clean it...

When cleaning your new helix/cartilage piercing it’s best to use NeilMed saline spray (click here if you need some delivered or we sell it a ROXXI’S). After you spray dab dry with a fresh and clean paper towel. NeilMed saline spray is a pressurised sterilised saline spray that does all the work for you, the pressure of the mist gently cleans all piercings. It’s important to use disposable paper towels when drying your new piercing because it’s the cleanest way to dry a fresh piercings and a cloth face wash or bath towel holds a lot of bacteria that we can’t even see. The NeilMed spray for body and facial piercings truely is the best on the market. We’ve got you ;)

What you put in...

Eat all the good things that accelerate healing. If you want to get fancy pumpkin seeds, blue berries and stay hydrated. If you feel you need extra support, Multivitamins containing Zinc and Vitamin C can boost your body’s healing abilities. As we know, dreaded stress and sometimes unavoidable fatigue will slow down the healing of your piercing.

Stop playing...

My last trick is please don’t touch! Get your hands away from that fresh piercing and the entire time it takes to heal. As pretty and tempting as our new piercings are by touching them we risk adding bacteria and cause them to feel a bit yuck and risk infection. Simply spray with NielMed twice a day until fully healed.

You’ve got to do the work! Piercing are the best and it’s all about feeling and looking your best, so take the healing time seriously and enjoy the process.

Now that’s taken care of, head down to Roxxi’s Poolroom for all you piercings and Tooth gem needs.
