Everything you need to know about walk in tattoos
So you're feeling a little spontaneous and ready for some fresh ink? Walk in tattoos are a radical option for those who want to get tattooed without the wait. But before you just head to the closest studio, it's important to know what to expect and how to make the most of your walk-in experience.
What is a walk in tattoo?
A walk in tattoo is exactly what it sounds like. It's a tattoo you get without a prior appointment. At Roxxi's Poolroom, we tattoo walk-ins everyday!
Some of our customers walk-in with an idea of what they want to get tattooed and some walk-ins happen to be passing by and just having a geez.. then they're absolutely spontaneous! We're often asked if spontaneous walk-ins are annoying. Hell no!! We love spontaneous walk-in tattoo craziness. It makes our day complete and you'll leave with an tatt and having had an awesome experience!
Not all studios offer walk-in services. However, our talented artists are ready to bring your ideas to life and we welcome walk-in tattoos.
What to expect when you walk in
There are a few things you should keep in mind when walking into a tattoo studio without an appointment.
Flexibility: While we accept walk-ins, we also work on a first to come in - first to get tattooed basis. If one of our awesome artists is available right away, they will tattoo you straight away. Keep in mind that although an artist might not be tattooing someone the minute you walk in, they may have a client pre-booked and are unable to see you instantly.
If you do turn up at Roxxi’s as a walk-in and we're busy tattooing, we suggest slapping down a deposit to save your walk-in spot.
Just keep an eye on the time we have advised you to return to the studio as we are located in that kind of area where you can get distracted by something shiny and may not make it back for your scheduled, names-on-the-list, walk-in time. We'd hate to turn down a fellow walk-in who could have got tattooed that day but didn't because we saved your spot and now you're catching a gig at the Old Bar or sipping on a fancy cocktail at the Shady Lady.
Have a clear idea: It's best to come in with a clear concept of what you want.
Sizing & Placement: Walk in tattoos are typically smaller and simpler designs. These spots are generally available for a design that will take no more than 1 - 3 hours to complete. If you're wanting something larger or with more detail you may be asked to book in for a consultation and will need to pre-book your appointment. This will also require a deposit. Walk ins are great for a spontaneous tattoo of small symbols, a word, or off-the-wall flash designs.
Discuss pricing upfront: Tattoo pricing can vary based on size, complexity, placement, and artist. Be sure to check in and ask about the cost to avoid any surprises when it comes time to pay.
Take care of your tattoo: Aftercare is crucial for keeping your new tattoo looking great. Your artist will provide you with instructions on how to care for your tattoo. You will receive the same care and information as someone who has pre-booked their tattoo appointment.
Tips for a great walk in tattoo experience
To make the most of your tattoo walk in experience, here are some things to consider:
Go early: The earlier you arrive at the studio, the better. Mornings tend to be less busy and are a good time to check in while artists are planning their days.
Be sober: We never tattoo any inebriated or drunk people. Please don't turn up in this fashion to the studio thinking we'll mistake it for spontaneity. We.won't.tattoo.you!!
Bring reference images: If you have a specific design in mind, be sure to bring along some reference images with you. This will help communicate your ideas with your artist.
Be polite and patient: Tattoo studios can get busy, especially on weekends and night tattooing. Please help us to create a positive experience for everyone involved.
Trust your artist: Our tattoo artists are experienced professionals. If they suggest a slight change or an adjustment to your design, it's worth considering their advice. They want your tattoo to look its best. If you are not feeling comfortable with an artist, you do not have to continue with the tattoo. If you experience any issues with any artists, please inform studio management.
